Matthew will lead us through his home town. Up steep short hill then pass C11 church of St. Lawrence, a graveyard and some parks. Then track to Coulsdon Commnon (where after 3 miles you could get bus back to Croydon) and down through Happy Valley (sheep grazing) and up hill to Farthing Downs (cattle grazing and views over London basin) to finish in Coulsdon Town. Lunch in pub or cheap Italian café. Could be muddy in parts so wear sturdy shoes or boots.Catch 09:59 train from E.Croydon (or bus 407) to Zone 6 Caterham Station entrance for start at 10.30.Finish Coulsdon (Zone 6) about 13.00 for bus or train back to Croydon. 5 miles approx.
Jeremy Kingston, playwright, poet and former theatre critic for Punch and The Times, will talk about his lifetime involvement with the theatre and read some extracts from his poetry collections and the plays he has written.
To mark Holocaust Memorial Day we'll be discussing I, Pierre Seel , deported Homosexual: A Memoir of Nazi Terror by Pierre Seel.
